Yes, some dogs display symptoms of ADHD (including a couple right here in the neighborhood!), as well as other "cries for help". And, increasingly, veterinarians are prescribing drugs -- yes, drugs! -- to deal with troubling behaviors such as incessant barking, separation anxiety, and aggressive practices and even violence. It's not something new. Drugs have been used for many years for extreme examples of aggression and violence. Sometimes it's the only factor between survival and being put down.
But now, ever-increasing numbers of animal behaviorists are recommending such drugs as Xanax and Prozac -- although in different dosages than humans take -- to help owners deal with undesirable pet demeanor.
